Over the past three years, the citizens and businesses of Brazoria County C & R 3, have benefitted from the unified efforts of it's Drainage Commissioners, the district management and employees and inter-local agreements with surrounding entities in providing and improving the drainage for our growing community. By working together in a professional manner, we have improved the image of the district, created a workplace atmosphere that has boosted the morale of our employees and saved the tax payers hundreds of thousands of dollars by working together for the mutual benefit of all.
Ongoing Projects and Improvements
Redesigning of the crossing at Gulf Coast water canal and M1 ditch.
Currently the canal flow through this crossing and the M1 ditch passes under the canal through pipes. The pipes are nearing collapse and need to be replaced. Replacement of these pipe could cost as much as $700,000 to $800,000 but through a inter-local agreement, redesigning the crossing, and approval of a grant, the configuration can be changed, allowing the water to pass through the canal uninhibited. Total cost to each entity could be as little as $10,000 with the matching fund portion of the project to be "work in kind" completed by drainage district employees. District tax payer savings from $10,000 to $200,000.
Dredging of Chocolate Bayou Channel from the Inter-Coastal Waterway to the chemical plants benefitting the citizens of C & R 3 -through cooperative efforts of the drainage district, and the participating chemical plant entities, a grant has been approved, and the project will go out for bid during first quarter of 2010 and is projected to be completed by third quarter of this year. This project is budgeted at $4,000,000 with all expenses being paid by the plants or the grant process.
